Seven in 10 Canadians are opposed to the impending increase to the federal carbon tax, according to a new poll.
The Trudeau government will be raising the tax an additional 17 cents per litre of gasoline, 21 cents per litre of diesel and 15 cents per cubic metre of natural gas.
According to the Canadian taxpayers Confederation, the impact of fuel prices may lead to prices passed down to the consumer, including higher food prices at grocery stores and restaurants.
The poll done by Leger for the CFT found that the majority of Canadians, 69%, were opposed to the hike, while the remaining 31% were in support of it.
Data was collected online from 1,590 Canadians aged 18 and over between Feb. 23 and 25.
