The City of Grande Prairie will host the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, an annual tournament that welcomes Indigenous hockey players from coast to coast.
The annual NAHC event, which was founded in 2002 to provide an annual forum for elite Indigenous hockey players across Canada, hosts athletes competing in U14 and U18 divisions
Mayor Jackie Clayton tells CFWE how the idea for the bid came about, and how Grande Prairie is a prime place for the championships.
Clayton said the championships will offer an opportunity for people to explore Grande Prairie and give hockey players a chance to “get integrated into the community.”
Over 500 participants are expected to compete in the 2024 championships.
