Lakeland Society for Truth and Reconciliation Orange Shirt Day Walk (Photo Submitted)
The Lakeland Society for Truth and Reconciliation is inviting the community to come together for an Orange Shirt Day Walk at Slawuta Pond Park in Bonnyville on September 28 at 11 a.m.
Krista Morris, Secretary with the Lakeland Society for Truth and Reconciliation, tells CFWE the walk, created in partnership with the Town of Bonnyville and the Municipal Library, gives people of all ages an opportunity to connect through education, remembrance and community healing.
Morris highlights where the walk will be taking place at Slawuta Pond Park, and the walking path that participants will take, adding that the gathering will feature the Seven Grandfather Teachings storyboard walk, a brief presentation on what Orange Shirt Day represents and a free BBQ to follow.
Morris speaks on the reminder of what Orange Shirt Day brings, which includes a sense of understanding and opportunities for people within the community to learn about the history of Residential Schools.
