The Alberta RCMP unveiled a new memorial plaque outside its Edmonton headquarters on September 10 to honour the lives of colleagues who passed away as a result of suicide. The memorial can be found outside the RCMP headquarters’ main entrance on 109 Street.
The plaque is one of 15 installed at RCMP divisions across the country. September 10 was chosen to release the plaque to the public, as the date marks World Suicide Prevention Day.
“The unveiling of this memorial plaque is an opportunity to remember those we have lost and to reaffirm our commitment to one another,” said Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP. “We must continue building an environment where employees feel safe seeking help, where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health, and where no one feels alone in their struggles.”
