A new chapter in First Nations economic development is underway in Saddle Lake First Nation, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Miscihk’s Country Market. The gas bar and convenience store is being developed with support from Western Nations, and is expected to provide a new service for travelers along Highway 36 while creating economic opportunities’ for the community.
Wayne Wood, Project lead of the Miscihk’s Country Market tells CFWE the project has been 4 years in the making as the gas bar will provide youth and community members a place of work and economic growth.

Wood highlights the deal with Cornerstone Co-op as $6,000 dollars will go towards the community with more contributions planned once the gas bar and convenience store is erected in March 2027.
