The provincial government is directing $3 million to Rising Above in Grande Prairie to expand local addiction recovery capacity.
A new 36-bed residential treatment centre for men is nearing completion and is scheduled to begin accepting clients this fall.
The organization’s six-month bed-based program aims to guide participants through treatment and support their transition into sustained recovery.
Executive Director for Rising Above Ministries, Adele-Marie Diffey says the investment will help them advance the services that they offer.
“This investment will allow Rising Above to significantly increase access to long-term recovery in our community, adding 36 residential recovery spaces. Behind every one of those beds is a person who will have the opportunity to find stability, address the deeper issues behind addiction and begin rebuilding their life. We are incredibly grateful to the Government of Alberta for investing in Rising Above and helping us create more opportunities in our region to experience hope, healing and lasting recovery.”
Additional plans are advancing for a Grande Prairie Recovery Community that could eventually offer up to 50 long-term treatment beds and broaden evidence-based, recovery-oriented services across northern Alberta.
Rising Above is also renovating an existing site to create women-only addiction treatment programming.
The non-profit already operates bed-based treatment, recovery programs, and housing services at multiple locations in the city.
