Alberta has appointed Jennifer Venance as its first commissioner of music.
Venance, who has more than two decades of experience as a musician and music educator, previously worked in the provincial government developing school curriculum.
She will be responsible for implementing the Alberta Music Action Plan, which is aimed at connecting industry leaders, supporting business development and championing initiatives that create opportunities for entrepreneurs and music businesses.
“Alberta is home to extraordinary artists, organizations and industry leaders and I am honoured to serve as the province’s first music commissioner,” said Venance in a statement.
The appointment forms part of Alberta’s broader music action plan, launched in April to strengthen the industry’s economic and cultural contributions.
