On Sunday, August 16, thousands of local, national and international marathon runners will take to city streets for the 2026 Servus Edmonton Marathon.
Known widely as the “friendly” marathon, it is celebrating its 35th year winding through a number of historic neighbourhoods and past Edmonton’s scenic River Valley.
A qualifier for the 2027 Boston Marathon, the race also hosts the Athletics Canada National Half Marathon Championships alongside the Canadian Masters Half Marathon Championships.
The Servus Edmonton Marathon features a flat, fast course that offers participants a unique connection to the community, with support from more than 400 volunteers and cheers from over 15,000 spectators.
The finish line, located in front of the Edmonton Convention Centre, will be filled with energy as fans line Jasper Avenue.
Road closures and traffic delays
The race route starts and finishes in front of the Edmonton Convention Centre at 97 Street and Jasper Avenue.
From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jasper Avenue will be fully closed from 95 Street to 116 Street.
With Jasper Avenue currently partially closed from 116 Street to 124 Street, drivers are asked to use 104 Avenue or 107 Avenue as alternate routes.
Jasper Avenue from 99 Street to 96 Street and 97 Street from Jasper Avenue to 101A Avenue will also be closed from 6:30 p.m. August 14 to 10 p.m. August 16.
Additionally, several streets east and west of the Edmonton Convention Centre will be closed or have traffic restrictions.
Impacts to downtown Edmonton will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 14 and end by 10 p.m. Sunday, August 16.
Drivers should expect significant delays from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, especially when travelling downtown.

Neighbourhood access
Many areas along the race route will allow local access only. Residents will still be able to access and leave their homes, but should plan ahead and expect delays.
Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods east of the Edmonton Convention Centre will begin at 6:45 a.m. and end at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Impacts to downtown neighbourhoods west of the Edmonton Convention Centre will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m.
Residential streets in Cromdale, Virginia Park, Bellevue, Boyle Street, Highlands, Beverly Heights, Rundle Heights, Wîhkwêntôwin, Glenora, Crestwood and Parkview will be affected.
Residents are asked not to park along the race route and to follow directions from race course marshals.
Parking
Parking restrictions will be in effect along the race route. Access to several parking facilities will be impacted from 6 p.m. Friday, August 14 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 16, including:
- Canada Place East and West parkades
- Stanley A. Milner Library parkade
- Sun Life parkade
- KRP Tower, 9888 Jasper Avenue
- Diamond and Impark lots on 99 Street south of Jasper Avenue
- Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, 10065 100 Street
- DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Downtown, 9576 Jasper Avenue
- Surface lots along 101A Avenue between 96 Street and 97 Street
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) impacts
With no north-south traffic across Jasper Avenue at 109 Street and 116 Street, several ETS routes will be detoured and some bus stops will be closed during the event. Affected routes include:
- Route 101: 5 to 10:30 a.m. August 16
- Routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 110X, 511, 701, 900X, 901 and 902: 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. August 16
Routes 2, 5, 111 and 900X will have additional detours to accommodate marathon setup and teardown.
Setup detours will run from 6 p.m. August 14 to 4 a.m. August 16, with teardown detours from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. August 16.
