The Treaty No.6: 150 Commemorative Celebration is set to take place at Churchill Square outside of Edmonton City Hall on August 17, the free family-friendly event features live music, an Indigenous artisan market, food trucks, cultural activities and a kids’ area, with Tia Wood headlining the entertainment.
Angel Houle with Municipal Affairs for the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, tells CFWE the 150th anniversary is a monumental opportunity to celebrate with community while educating people about the significance of Treaty No.6 and its meaning across the lands it encompasses in Alberta.
Houle highlights the lineup of Treaty Six artists set to perform at Churchill Square including Tia Wood, Stephanie Harpe, Ryan Arcand, Amanda Gendron, Bryce Morin and more as the event is showcasing Treaty Six artists.
Featured artist Stirling John says it’s an honour to be part of the event, adding that his band will be sharing uplifting music and a message of resilience with Treaty Six community members and Edmontonians.
CFWE and our sister station The Raven Radio Network (89.3 FM HD1 Edmonton) will be live on site throughout the day.
