A partial solar eclipse will be visible across Alberta on Wednesday morning, if the skies clear.
Albertans will be able to see both the peak of an ongoing meteor shower and the chance to see a partial solar eclipse. Edmontonians can join the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada at Coronation Park between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. for a safe viewing experience.
Peak meteor-watching hours will be 5 a.m. on Thursday within the Edmonton region.
Alberta will most likely not be able to see a total solar eclipse – when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow onto the planet – because of the moon’s projected path.
Anyone wanting to watch the moon’s path on Wednesday morning should wear a pair of eclipse glasses.
The Perseid shower last went through the inner solar system in 1992 and will be back in 2126.
