The Red Deer Artwalk summer festival is returning to the city’s downtown after an 11-year hiatus. The Red Deer Arts Council has announced the revival of this beloved event, which will take place on Saturday, August 29, at the former Buffalo Hotel, located at the corner of Ross Street and 51 Avenue.
This year’s festival will feature vibrant market booths with 26 vendors showcasing locally created paintings, ceramics, textile arts, and jewelry. Attendees can also enjoy live entertainment provided by local musicians.
The original Artwalk festival was established to give artists and artisans a platform to promote and sell their creations. It ran for over 26 years before concluding in 2015, when the society officially disbanded at the end of 2014 due to volunteer burnout and the lack of available indoor space, as well as a shortage of new volunteers. This summer, the Red Deer Arts Council is reviving the annual festival to inspire community connection and foster cultural appreciation.
In the event of rain, the alternative date for Artwalk is September 19.
