The Haying in the 30’s Cancer Support Society hosted its 28th annual fundraiser in Mallaig over the August long weekend, raising a total of $321,917. One hundred percent of the funds raised go toward supporting individuals and families affected by cancer.
Fern Jean, President of the Haying in the 30’s Support Society, shared that since its founding in 1999, the organization has assisted nearly 9,000 people and raised a total of $8 million. The society provides direct financial assistance, typically in the form of a one-time payment of $1,000, to help individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis cover expenses related to travel, fuel, lodging, and other treatment costs.
The event simulates 1930s pioneer farming life and features horse-drawn machinery, heritage demonstrations, camping, and food, with all donations collected going directly to support individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
