Red Deer Polytechnic and the National Circle for Indigenous Agriculture & Food have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen Indigenous agriculture, applied research, and education across Canada.
The agreement creates a formal long-term partnership focused on supporting Indigenous learners, communities, and leaders. It emphasizes applied research, skills development, and initiatives that respect and incorporate Indigenous knowledge and agricultural traditions.
The partnership aligns with the Polytechnics ReconciliAction Plan 2023-2028 and supports the NCIAF’s national mandate to empower Indigenous people in agriculture and agribusiness.
“This partnership creates meaningful opportunities for Indigenous communities to shape the future of agricultural productivity in ways that respect culture, land and tradition,” said Stuart Cullum, President of Red Deer Polytechnic. “By working together, we can strengthen food security, expand economic opportunities and support the next generation of Indigenous agricultural leaders.”
Under the MOU, the two organizations will collaborate on applied research projects that support Indigenous food systems, develop and deliver culturally relevant education and training programs for Indigenous learners, and undertake joint marketing and outreach efforts to increase awareness and participation.
