Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Fort McMurray has been selected to host the 2027 Centennial Cup.
The prestigious national Junior A championship is scheduled for May 6–16, 2027.
The 11 day event will feature the country’s top Junior A teams battling for the national title in a high-stakes showcase of Canada’s best young talent outside the major junior ranks.
Fort McMurray has deep ties to the tournament’s history.
The city last hosted in 2000, when the hometown Fort McMurray Oil Barons thrilled local fans by winning the Centennial Cup on home ice.
The 2027 edition will mark the seventh time Alberta has hosted the national Junior A championship, once again shining a national spotlight on the province and the Wood Buffalo region.
Oil Barons President Andrew Boutilier described the announcement as a significant milestone for the club and the community.
