3 people are in hospital after a tornado touched down at a provincial park on Wednesday night.
Dillberry Lake Provincial Park in central Alberta, near the Saskatchewan boundary, was evacuated and campers were told to head to the nearby village of Chauvin.
Environment Canada earlier released a severe thunderstorm warning for the area, calling it a “dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation” and advised residents to take cover.
According to RCMP, everyone in the campground was accounted for, and some were in hospital.
The storm later moved east into Saskatchewan and the warning in Alberta was lifted at 8:48 p.m.
On Thursday morning, Western University’s Northern Tornadoes Project posted on social media that it had confirmed two tornadoes touched down in Alberta the night before: one southwest of Paradise Valley, which is located about 250 kilometres southeast of Edmonton, and another southeast of Chauvin, which is located about 265 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
