The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Darnell Nurse from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin and prospect forward Zack Sharp.
Nurse is entering the fifth season of an eight-year, $74 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $9.25 million.
The Oilers did not retain money in the deal.
Mukhamadullin (6’4”, 200 lbs, 24) dressed in 50 games for the Sharks last season, registering 12 points (5G, 7A), 22 penalty minutes and a -3 plus/minus rating. In 83 career games over parts of three seasons with the Sharks, he tallied 22 points (7G, 15A), 34 penalty minutes and a -10 plus/minus rating.
The Russian product was originally a first-round (20th overall) selection of the New Jersey Devils from the 2020 NHL Draft.
Sharp (6’2”, 180lbs, 21) is coming off his second season with Western Michigan University (NCAA), where he grabbed 19 points (5G, 14A), 18 penalty minutes and a +15 plus/minus rating over 37 games.
