After years of planning and building, a new Indigenous elders lodge has officially opened it’s doors near Grande Cache.
The Kikinow Elders lodge features a circular layout and a central Home Fire gathering space inspired by the traditional Tipi structure. These elements foster a strong sense of community and provide a safe, respectful environment for Elders to share knowledge, tell stories, and engage in meaningful land-based activities.
The lodge has 10 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom homes for elders, along with kitchen and dining supports, a teepee round space for gatherings and a spirit room for smudging ceremonies.
Kikinow means “our home” in Cree.
