On Friday, Protesters will gather in 15 communities to participate in the Alberta-wide Day of Protest.
A total of 20 protest actions are planned in support of the Alberta Federation of Labour’s Fight Back Now! campaign that launched earlier this year.
The May 29 Day of Protest is open to all Albertans who oppose the provincial government on issues including two-tier health care, under-funding and under-staffing of key public services, coal mining in the Rockies and attacks on worker rights and human rights.
“Albertans are done sitting quietly while this government attacks workers, public services, and our communities. When governments stop responding to normal democratic signals, citizens need to get louder – and more disruptive,” said Gil McGowan, Alberta Federation of Labour president.
There are 20 Day of Protest actions planned in 15 communities in Alberta. A full listing can be found at www.FightBackNow.ca.
In Edmonton, the rally will be held at Centennial Plaza on Jasper Avenue from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Calgary’s event, The “Rise Up” rally will take place at Riley Park, starting at 5:30 p.m.
