The Lakeshore Regional Police Service and the Chief Kinosew Children’s Lodge will be hosting the Guns, Gangs and Drugs presentation at the Driftpile Cree Nation Community Hall on May 20 from 6-8 p.m.
Inspector Derek Tompkins with the Lakeshore Regional Police Service tells CFWE the presentation aims to educate community members on how gangs target youth for recruitment, while highlighting the warning signs people should look out for.
Tompkins adds that there has been a significant spike in gun violence and memberships into gangs within Driftpile Cree Nation and several other communities LRPS serves.
Youth programs and resources will be available for inquiries and information at the presentation for at risk youth, with Tompkins adding that opportunities like these are ways communities can stand up against gang activity.
