The Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement is inviting community members to celebrate culture, tradition and connection during the Métis Heritage Days at the Bold Centre from May 15-17. The three-day event will feature cultural activities, Family Dance & Karaoke, and a hockey tournament while highlighting Métis Heritage and community pride.
Besst Peterson, Recreation Director with Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement, spoke with CFWE on what’s in store throughout the three-day event that will include a community dinner, performances by the Grade 2 choir from Vera M Welsh Elementary School, traditional dancing by the Buffalo Lake Reelers, and a musical performance by Kyran Reid & Running River Band.
Peterson highlights the Métis Heritage Days Hockey Tournament that will feature 8 men’s teams from different reserves and Métis Settlements, along with a women’s team bracket that will consist 4, 35+ teams within the tournament. Games will kick off on May 15th and will run until the playoffs and championship games on May 17th from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Peterson speaks on the biggest takeaway for attendees is celebrating Métis pride while sharing the culture and traditions with non-Métis visitors.
