A major spring storm is expected to bring wintry conditions to parts of Alberta over the next few days.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising Albertans to prepare for a storm that will bring strong winds, heavy rain and snow, and potentially dangerous travel conditions.
An intense low will develop in Alberta beginning Wednesday morning. Strong northwesterly winds with gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are possible.
In addition to the severe winds, potentially significant rain or snow will fall over northern parts of Alberta. The heaviest precipitation is expected to begin on Thursday morning with 20 to 40 mm of precipitation anticipated by Friday night.
The potential for snowfall will be in higher elevations, where some areas could see over 20 cm.
For cities like Edmonton and Calgary, rain is expected to be the main concern, if wet weather develops.
