Residents of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo are invited to come together May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doug Barnes Cabin in Thickwood to reflect, remember, and reconnect on the 10-year anniversary of the Horse River Wildfire, with a day of free activities focused on healing, and community strength.
Nadia McCrone, Manager of Council Relations with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, tells CFWE the wildfire’s 10-year anniversary is a time for reflection and strengthening connections with neighbors.
McCrone highlights the Doug Barnes Cabin, the venue that was saved 10 years ago during the wildfires, will host the gathering where organizations such as the Red Cross will provide social supports, with the Salvation Army cooking up grilled cheese sandwiches and serving hot beverages on site. Other organizations such as Arts Council of Wood Buffalo will provide arts and crafts activities for children.
