The RCMP have launched ‘Operation Cold Start,’ a winter crime-prevention effort targeting unattended and idling vehicles. Officers across the province of Alberta are patrolling communities, reminding drivers to secure their cars and offering tips to prevent opportunistic thefts during the cold season.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff tells CFWE that winter auto theft often happens when vehicles are left running unattended with the keys left in the ignition.
Cpl. Savinkoff says educating the public is key to reducing crime numbers in auto theft throughout the winter season, with raising awareness across the province.
