Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a GST credit for low and moderate income Canadians helping with the rise of living. The program is called Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit supporting 12 million Canadians’.
Food inflation in Canada has risen according to the Bank of Canada.
Canada has recorded the highest rate of food inflation in December 2025 according to government data. Food prices rose by 6.2% in December, double the rate in the U.S., and more than three times the rates in France and Germany.
The benefits include a one-time transfer to eligible Canadians and an increase in the annual credit for five years.
