The 41st annual Santa’s Anonymous Campaign at Father Patrick Mercredi High School in Fort McMurray helps hundreds of families across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo celebrate Christmas.
The campaign officially launches Nov. 15 with the Annual Family Christmas Market, which has expanded to a two-day event inside the school gymnasiums. The market will run Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring more than 80 local vendors and a new children’s Fun Zone that may include special guests. All proceeds from the market will support Santa’s Anonymous, and visitors are invited to drop off donations during the event.
Another popular tradition returns Dec. 12 when the Fort McMurray Oil Barons host their annual Teddy Bear Toss at Centerfire Place. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to throw onto the ice after the first goal, or purchase one at the rink before the game, with all donations going to the campaign.
The program’s goal remains to provide each registered family with a full Christmas dinner and gifts for every child. Donations of new toys, gifts for babies or seniors, and monetary contributions can be dropped off at Father Mercredi High School. Businesses and individuals can also organize fundraising events or volunteer to deliver hampers on Dec. 19.
