The Edmonton Oilers have grown accustomed to slow starts, starting their season with a “Stanley Cup Hangover” dropping their first 3 games on the season.
Last season, the Oilers came up one game short of winning the Stanley Cup. The run was so dominant that you would be excused for forgetting how grim the opening stretch of their regular season was, where Edmonton collected just five points in their opening 12 games. It was ugly, and culminated in a coaching change.
To start this season, it’s much of the same. A blowout loss to start the year against Winnipeg and most recently, a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames in the Battle of Alberta.
Sporting a -12 goal differential in the three games, there’s cause for concern. Head coach Kris Knoblauch says the lack of desperation from his group is one of the main factors for the skid.
Inside the locker room, doesn’t have alot of smiling faces, a slow start knowing everyone can be better is something forward Zach Hyman is frustrated about.
Edmonton will look for win #1 on the year when they host the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 8pm in Rogers Place.
