The Red Deer Native Friendship Society is hosting an “Honouring the Children Feast and Blanket Exercise” on September 30 at Fort Normandeau.
At 9 a.m. there will be a Kairos blanket exercise, an interactive activity that shares the true history of Indigenous people in Canada and at about noon, they will hold a traditional feast to honour the children who never returned home from Residential Schools.
The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery is also holding a ceremony and community gathering on September 30 to remember the lives of children lost to the Residential Schools.
Ceremony schedule:
- 11 a.m.: Welcome, opening prayer, and land acknowledgement.
- 11:15 a.m.: History of TRC Day talk.
- 11:30 a.m.: Transfer of quilt from Métis local to Native Counselling.
- 12-3 p.m.: Free barbecue (Bannock burgers food truck) and music by Billy Joseph (fiddle and guitar)
