The Kikinow Elders Lodge is a 17,211 sq. ft. senior living facility designed specifically to meet the cultural needs of Indigenous Elders.
The lodge, located in the Municipal District of Greenview, features a circular layout and a central Home Fire gathering space inspired by the traditional Tipi structure. These elements foster a strong sense of community and provide a safe, respectful environment for Elders to share knowledge, tell stories, and engage in meaningful land-based activities.
Recently, a topping Blessing Ceremony took place at the site near Grande Cache to mark the placement of the teepee’s peak, which represents the highest point of the building.
The governments of Alberta & Canada contributed $2.3 million to the project through the Indigenous Housing Capital Program
Construction for the lodge is expected to be completed in early 2025.
