Alberta Wildfire released encouraging news related to the many wildfires across the province. After getting lots of rain, good progress had been made on dozens of fires scattered across Alberta.
On Sunday, 17 out of control wildfires had been brought under control, and 49 fires had been doused between Friday and Sunday.
The Algar wildfire complex southwest of Fort McMurray was reclassified from out-of-control to being held. Since being sparked by lightning on July 10, the fire burned more than 17,000 hectares.
Alberta Wildfire firefighters have come all across the country and globally with support from Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to help.
Evacuation orders are still in place for Jasper, Chipewyan Lake, Fox lake, John D’Or Prairie, Garden River and parts of the Municipal District of Bighorn.
