One man has been charged in connection with an incident at the Fort Chipewyan Airport last Wednesday.
Wood Buffalo RCMP said in a news release that on May 1 at 3:07 p.m. officers responded to reports of gunshots fired near the community’s airport. Nobody was injured in the shooting because the incident allegedly involved a pellet gun. Police found no damage to the property.
Mikisew Cree First Nation uploaded a Facebook post last Wednesday where Chief Billy-Joe Tuccaro told members to stay indoors while the investigation was underway. Police reported that there were no injuries, victims or damage on Wednesday and in an update on Thursday Chief Tuccaro said the lockdown was lifted.
The man who fired shots is charged with uttering threats against a person, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent, use of an imitation firearm while committing an offence and failure to comply with a release order.
On May 3, RCMP confirmed they had arrested two people who were involved in the incident. On Monday Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton says that the suspect allegedly used a pellet gun powered by a carbon dioxide container.
Another man was arrested in connection with the incident but was released without charges.
