The Lakeland Out of the Elements Shelter Society held it’s grand opening of the brand new Transitional Housing Facility in Lac La Biche.
The newly built facility will provide services to the houseless community to get back on their feet and into the community towards a brighter future.
Lenora LeMay, Board Chair of the Lakeland Out of the Elements Shelter Society speaks on how the facility will aid those that walk in through the doors that are in need of the provided services, and to aid them into transitional housing and programs to get them employment and healing.
LeMay speaks on how the staff inside the facility will work with guests on a one-on-one level, and getting to know who they are and supporting that individual on getting to where they want to be.
LeMay speaks on the land where the Transitional Housing Facility is built on sacred land called Moccasin Flats, where guests within the facility are surrounded by nature, where staff are looking into integrating Cultural healing and teaching into the facility and outdoor activities.
LeMay adds that the Transitional Housing Facility relies on the community support for bringing in donations of food, clothing and linen to aid the houseless community, as she says “it takes a community to end homelessness”.
Lac La Biche County Mayor Paul Reutov says that the facility is a large step towards the help program within the community, adding that the newly built Transitional Housing Facility will aid in helping the houseless community from the streets to a more comfortable lifestyle.
