More than 100 transported out of the Peace Regional Correctional Centre due to a wildfire burning 15km south of Peace River. RCMP say the fire was getting too close to the centre and the decision was made to move the inmates to safety.
The buses were escorted by Mounties to various RCMP detachments, including Peace Regional, Valleyview, High Prairie, Slave Lake, Lakeshore, Spirit River, where the inmates were held until arrangements could be made to transport them to other remand centres in the province.
The buses were provided by the Peace River School Division.
