One of the ways the Calgary Public Library supports artists from various disciplines a chance to grow is by offering a three-month residence at the Central Library.
For 2024 the Indigenous Artist in Residence has been awarded to multi-disciplined Cree Artist from Sturgeon Lake Alberta Kamamak Mackenzie Brown who is a current resident of Calgary.
Kamamak is Brown’s traditional Cree name which translates to butterfly in the English language.
Along side with background in painting and traditional crafts, Kamamak hold a degree in Child and Youth Care which she uses to spark conversations about how people of all ages see the world around them.
CFWE caught up with Kamamak and talked about what she hopes to accomplish during her residence.
At the end of the residence on May 30 there will be a gallery of various works will be displayed for the public to see.
More information about the residence can be found the Calgary Public Library’s website.
