Things were hopping at Emily Murphy Park yesterday !
As winter still lingered, but showed signs of spring The Edmonton Police Service held the 3rd Annual Beeping Eggs Project.
The EPS Bomb Unit custom created large, specially designed eggs that make sounds, allowing blind and visually impaired children to use their sense of hearing to find the Easter eggs.
“It warms my heart to see this stuff coming from the ground up. That means that we’re on the right track,” according to Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee
The children then turned the “found” eggs over to police officers in exchange for a big bag of chocolate and sensory toys.
The annual event also included a petting zoo operated by Wanistay Ranch where cuddly rabbits, bundled in blankets were handled by children.
The beeping eggs are said to have originated at the Blind Children’s Centre in Los Angeles in 2005, by bomb technician and IABTI member David Hyche, who sought a way for his blind daughter Rachel to participate fully in a church Easter egg hunt.
The local event was funded by the Edmonton Police Foundation as part of its mission to promote safety and well being by fostering connections between EPS and the community.
