City of Edmonton employees will now be joining their public library bretheren in voting towards a strike.
Civic Service Union 52 members which include IT staff, clerical staff, 911 dispatchers, recreation centre staff and planners have voted 91 per cent in favour of a strike with voter turnout at approximately 83 percent.
The strike vote results are expected to send the city back to negotiations with union members.
The Civic Service union previously announced last Friday that the Edmonton Public Library members voted 94 per cent in favour of a strike mandate, with 93 per cent turnout.
The union is just one of five unions representing the city’s employees and could strike with 72 hours notice.
The main focus area in dealings between the union and the City is wages. The news release from last Friday stated that the union’s goal is to come to an agreement “that is fair and equitable for CSU 52 members, the city and taxpayers.”
