An Evacuation Order is in place for Fort Fitzgerald. Smith’s Landing First Nation and the Town of Fort Smith have also issued Evacuation Orders. Anyone in these areas must leave immediately, while following instructions from emergency responders.
Report to registration centre if support needed
Evacuees without vehicles should report to the Fort Smith Recreation Centre. Evacuees who need accommodations should go to the Hay River Community Recreation Centre to check-in and receive further information on temporary accommodations and available supports.
Smith’s Landing First Nation is arranging accommodations for its members if required, please contact the First Nation for details.
To support the evacuation order, a State of Local Emergency has been declared for Fort Fitzgerald area by the Municipality.

All Alberta evacuees should register online
If you are living in areas in Alberta under an Evacuation Order you should register online as an evacuee. To register visit, MyAlberta Emergency Registration System (MAERS). Those having trouble with online access can call the Government of Alberta call centre (310-4455) to register over the phone.
All evacuees are advised to:
- Follow the instructions of emergency responders.
- Secure your home by locking all doors and windows.
- Ensure everyone in your household is aware of the evacuation.
- Notify emergency responders if you are aware of vulnerable residents who may need help evacuating.
