A 59 year old man was arrested Wednesday Morning after he spray painted the Alberta Legislature and pointed a gun at people who attempted to stop him.
Shortly before 12pm, crews were called to a weapons complaint on the north steps. The man was spray painting the building when construction workers tried to stop him, police said.
When sheriffs confronted the man he complied and was arrested shortly after. Two guns, one of which was loaded, were found on the suspect.
Police did not name him but said “various firearm-related” charges will be laid.
“Corupt” and “law” was left painted on the front of the legislature, along with other illegible things.
Steven Mitchell, 59 is now facing the following charges:
Mischief Under $5,000
Pointing a Firearm
Assault with a Weapon
Use of Firearm While Committing Offence
Contravene Firearm Regulation (x2)
Possess Offensive Weapon Dangerous to Public (x2)
Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition Readily accessible (x2)
Possession of a Restricted Firearm in an Unauthorized Place (x2)
