Public transit workers across Canada want to see change to public transit systems. In cities like Edmonton and Calgary, many commentors don’t feel safe taking public transportation.
This is echoed by transit workers and Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) for Edmonton president Steve Bradshaw spoke to Windspeaker Radio Network about what workers in Edmonton are seeing on a daily basis.
On April twenty-fourth, the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) released a list of recommendations they want changed to help Canada’s public transit systems.

A major factor that transit workers are seeing across the province and the country is how many elements of transit including stations have become safe spaces.
In CUTA’s recommendations is creating more safe spaces in urban centers so people are relaying on transit facilities and are able to get care when needed.
Windspeaker Radio Network also spoke with ATU President Mike Mahar about situations transit workers have been put in due to the lack of support for people who are struggling with mental health and addiction.
If you or a loved one is struggling with mental health or addiction you can call 811 or call the Alberta Mental Health Hotline 1-877-303-2642 and Alberta Addictions Hotline 1-866-332-2322.
