The Edmonton Food Bank said the organization needs more donations, with only so much food coming through their doors as the demand for their services rise with the cost of living.
Marjorie Bencz is the executive director at the Edmonton Food Bank told the Windspeaker Radio Network the organization is serving double the number of people they were serving during the peak of the pandemic in 2020.
The food bank provides services to about 300 agencies including soup kitchens, shelters and schools. Bencz said more partner organizations are coming to them for food along with the people they serve.
As many face the financial hardships, the Edmonton Food bank will be providing additional services such as the “Beyond Food Program” where they help people with with writing resumes, jobs searches and other avenues of getting more income in their households instead of relying on the food bank.
Bencz hopes people who need these services don’t get discouraged and continue to try.
Food donations can be left at any major grocery store or City of Edmonton fire station; secure online donations can also be made on their website.
