A new mural at the Okotoks Recreation Centre commemorates the upcoming 2023 Alberta Summer Games
Okotoks & Black Diamond will host the 2023 Alberta Summer Games July 20 to 23.
The games will welcome over 3000 athletes from Alberta between the ages of 11 and 17.
Teams and individual competitors from eight zones across Alberta will compete for provincial bragging rights in 14 sports including lacrosse, basketball, baseball, swimming and rugby.
ASG has been around since 1974 and have been a pivotal stepping stone in young athletes’ journeys. Some athletes who have participated in the games have gone on to represent their communities in the Canada Games and even the Olympics.
The first official event of the 2023 Alberta Summer Games — the Torch Celebration — will make its way through Okotoks and Diamond Valley on Wednesday, July 19, a day before the opening ceremonies of the biennial sporting spectacle at Seaman stadium in Oktoks. Locally-nominated torchbearers will carry the ATCO torch as they run, walk and cycle through downtown streets in both communities.
