In a special weather statement from Environment Canada, Alberta is heading into an extended period of hot and dry conditions starting this weekend.
According to the weather agency, An extended period of hot and dry conditions will begin this weekend & all of next week
The highest temperatures are expected from Sunday through Tuesday. Maximum daytime highs will be close to 30 degrees which would be 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal values. With elevated temperatures, the risk of heat related illnesses will increase.
Alberta’s wildfire dashboard shows 74 active fires today, with most of the 23 fires classified as burning out of control clustered in the western half of the province.
Special air quality advisories have been issued in response to wildfire smoke for most of Alberta.
