A Cree Filmmaker from Saddle Lake Cree Nation will premiere her film” Bannock is Love” on September 16, 2026 at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto.
The film is a 10 minute film highlighting the process of making bannock with love. The storyline explores the making of bannock which is a testament to love, resilience and the enduring strength of Indigenous knowledge.
CFWE spoke with Filmmaker, Tyra Delver, she says “I want people to see themselves in this film and for it to open doors for more Indigenous people to have these kinds of opportunities, I didn’t think a little Rez girl like me could do something like this. It’s hard to have confidence in yourself as an emerging filmmaker – to believe you have stories to tell and a vision to share. But I’m here, and I’m making my younger self very proud”.
The National Film Board selected five storytellers to explore what it means to be Canadian or Indigenous today and Delver was selected from more than 240 applicants to bring her idea to life set.
