The Red Deer Food Bank is launching its own version of Hunger Action Month to raise awareness about food insecurity. While Hunger Action Month is celebrated in other parts of North America every September, the Red Deer Food Bank seeks to promote this initiative locally.
Through this campaign, they aim to share practical ways for individuals to help, including donating food or funds, volunteering, organizing food drives, and participating in community events.
Each week of Hunger Action Month will focus on a different aspect of the issue:
● Week 1 – Hunger Is Closer Than You Think: Helping people understand who uses the Food Bank and why more individuals and families are asking for help.
● Week 2 – Food Fuels a Child’s Future: Focusing on how access to food affects children’s ability to learn, grow, and take part in school.
● Week 3 – Every Action Matters: Sharing the different ways individuals, businesses and community groups can donate, volunteer, organize a drive or raise awareness.
● Week 4 – Stronger Communities Start at the Table: Showing how the Red Deer Food Bank works with partner agencies and regional food banks to support people throughout Central Alberta.
The launch of the Red Deer campaign comes shortly after Food Banks Alberta reported that its warehouse, which supplies 112 member food banks, is critically low on resources.
