The wildfire danger rating in the GPFA has been downgraded to moderate, as firewatchers say even with the warmer weather, vegetation in a lot of areas are continuing to hold moisture; helping prevent wildfires.
On Monday, August 31, a new out of control wildfire, GWF060, was deteced and is approximately 0.01 hectares in size. Lightning has been the suspected cause, and the fire is not threatening any nearby communities. Firefighters are responding to the blaze.
Alberta Wildfire is reminding farmers that with harvesting operations picking up, to make sure their equipment is well maintained to reduce sparking and overheating of machinery as it could lead to creating a wildfire. They also suggest to always have firefighting equipment on hand like a fire extinguisher, water, and a shovel, and to let machinery cool off on hot days.
