A 44-year-old Fort McMurray woman is facing theft and fraud charges after a lengthy RCMP investigation into more than $800,000 that police allege went missing from the Fort McMurray Heritage Society.
Angela Lynch was arrested Wednesday by Wood Buffalo RCMP. She is charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000.
The case traces back to November 2024, when the Fort McMurray Heritage Society itself contacted police to report missing funds and financial irregularities in its accounts. At that point the reported shortfall stood at roughly $500,000.
Investigators examined financial records, administrative documents, electronic evidence and witness statements. By the end of the inquiry, police alleged the society had lost more than $800,000.
Lynch was released from custody on an undertaking and must appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Oct. 14.
Wood Buffalo RCMP have released no further information about how the alleged offences were carried out, the time period involved, or Lynch’s connection to the Heritage Society.
