Fort McKay First Nation will host it’s Dene Day on Friday, July 31 at the First Nations Cultural Village.
The event features a full day of cultural sharing, friendly competition, food and community connection.
Gates open at 10:30 a.m., with activities beginning at Noon and continuing until 5:00 p.m.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging events, including a Bannock Making contest, traditional Dene hand games, storytellers, and opportunities for cultural sharing.
The celebration continues with a powwow on Saturday, August 1, at the Lawrence Bull Powder Arena with grand entries set for 1 and 7pm.
As one of the five First Nations under the Athabasca Tribal Council — alongside Athabasca Chipewyan, Chipewyan Prairie, Fort McMurray, and Mikisew Cree First Nations — Fort McKay First Nation continues to strengthen community bonds through events like Dene Day.
Located on the banks of the Athabasca River, about 45 minutes north of Fort McMurray, the community remains a proud hub of Dene, Cree and Metis culture in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
