Red Deer’s Mustard Seed Community Support Centre is gearing up for a special milestone as it celebrates 10 years of serving the region.
A public anniversary event is scheduled for Monday, July 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the centre located at 6002 54 Avenue.
Attendees can enjoy a free barbecue, live music, family-oriented activities, and hear uplifting stories highlighting the organization’s impact over the past decade.
“The Mustard Seed has become a vital presence in Red Deer over the last 10 years,” said Laura Giesbrecht, Senior Director of Food Services. “We’ve been able to support vulnerable men, women, and children across Central Alberta while creating meaningful ways for individuals and groups to contribute to something bigger than themselves. From tackling food insecurity and offering overnight shelter to providing safe daytime spaces and helping people move forward on their personal journeys, our work has touched countless lives.”
The Mustard Seed officially opened its doors on July 4, 2016, and quickly expanded its reach to assist families and individuals facing homelessness and poverty.
In the past ten years, the centre has delivered a wide range of services, including emergency shelter, daily drop-in programs, employment assistance, housing support, and various community activities. Records show a total of 94,994 overnight shelter stays during this period.
The Mustard Seed also runs a long-standing School Lunch Program that has operated for more than 21 years. It currently serves nutritious lunches to more than 500 children every school day.
In 2025 alone, the program delivered over 92,000 lunches to more than 50 schools in and around Red Deer.
The anniversary celebration invites the community to come together and recognize the progress made while looking ahead to continued impact in Central Alberta.
