Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a shots-fired call on the morning of June 27, 2026, in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, south of Fort McMurray.
At approximately 7:47 a.m., officers were dispatched after a man reported being shot at. The victim was not injured. Police quickly located the suspect, who was known to the victim, at a residence in the community and arrested him without incident.
Later that evening, at around 8:30 p.m., RCMP executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home and seized money, weapons, meth and other drug paraphernalia.
Police have charged 36 year old Maurice Janvier of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation.
Janvier was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was remanded into custody.
He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 6.
