The Gregoire Skate Park is now open for the community to enjoy just in time for summer break.
Today, hundreds of students from Greely Road Elementary School were joined by teachers, school board trustees, Mayor and Council, municipal staff and other community members to cut the ribbon and celebrate the completion of the project.
Following the ribbon cutting, some very talented students created beautiful pieces of chalk art in the skate park and participated in other fun activities to showcase the spirit of the region and their excitement for this new recreation space in Gregoire.
The Gregoire Skate Park began as a student-led idea from grade five and six students at Greely Road Elementary School. Students shared their vision with Mayor Bowman, wrote letters and advocated for the skate park to Council by presenting at a public meeting. Their dedication and passion inspired the project that was shaped by community feedback and student ideas.
The completed project features a concrete skate pad with a variety of features, including rails, quarter pipes and ramps. The skate park is designed for all skill levels, from beginners developing new skills to experienced riders looking for features that encourage progression and creativity.
