Melody Lepine has officially taken office as chief of the Mikisew Cree First Nation following the nation’s recent election.
Lepine assumes leadership alongside newly elected councillors Paul Tuccaro, Shirley Dunning, Sandra Antoine, Kevin Courtoreille and Jocelyn Marten.
A tie remains for one council position between Lawrence Courtoreille and Eddie McDonald.
Officials say the process for resolving the tie has not yet been determined, with a final outcome expected in the coming weeks.
Mikisew Cree First Nation, based in Fort Chipewyan, is one of the largest Indigenous communities in northeastern Alberta.
